After repeating the same lie over and over, it starts to become natural. Some may even start to truly believe their own lies. We saw this recently in the Carlee Russell case. Her lies told over and over seemed to become more of a reality for her, and many people following the case.
Technology has an impact on this as well. Megan says her friends have her location, so if she flakes on plans – they know exactly where she went. This actually deters her from lying.
Spencer says his go-to lie is something he used frequently on women that he wasn’t interested in. Telling women, he was allergic to their cats was the out he needed to avoid hurting their feelings by telling them what was actually wrong.
