Georgia Officials Remove Invasive Species From a Boat On Lake Lanier

A problem often not seen or thought of came to light on Lake Lanier. Georgia DNR officials removed about a gallon of Zebra mussels from a boat that had been in the Tennessee River recently. Zebra mussels are invasive to US waters. DNR officials commend the boat owner for realizing the issue and calling. Zebra mussels and other aquatic invasive species can cause millions of dollars in damage to boats and water intake pipes, while undermining native mussels and other aquatic species.

It's a good reminder to check, clean and inspect your boat when you take it to other waters.
