Former New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is reportedly finalizing a five-year, $155 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Jeff Passan on Wednesday (December 10).

"BREAKING: First baseman Pete Alonso and the Baltimore Orioles are finalizing a five-year, $155 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Alonso leaves the Mets to make a loaded AL East even better," Passan wrote on his X account. "Pete Alonso’s deal with the Orioles gives him the highest AAV ever for a first baseman. He winds up with $185 million, including his $30 million salary last year, and followed the same track Matt Chapman and Blake Snell did, taking a short-term deal and turning it into a bounty."

Alonso, 31, was an All-Star for the fifth time in his career and the fourth consecutive season in 2025, winning the National League Silver Slugger award with a .272 average, 38 home runs and 126 RBIs. The Tampa native spent his entire career with the Mets, hitting for a .253 average, 264 home runs, 712 RBIs and 951 hits in seven seasons, which includes leading Major League Baseball in home runs, being named as an All-MLB First Team selection and winning National League Rookie of the Year in 2019 and leading the National League in RBIs in 2022.

Alonso's reported decision came one day after former Mets closer Edwin Diaz was reported to have reached an agreement on a three-year, $69 million deal with the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
