Tony Petelos, CEO & County Manager of Jefferson County Commission

Tony Petelos has a long history of service to the people of Alabama and especially Jefferson County. He was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1986 and was twice re-elected, serving until 1997. In that year, he was appointed Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Human Resources by Governor Fob James and reappointed to that position by Governor Don Siegelman. DHR was under a Federal consent decree when he assumed leadership of the organization, and under his leadership they were able to develop a plan to comply with requirements and ultimately be released from the decree.

He was elected Mayor of the City of Hoover in 2004 and re-elected, having no opposition, in 2008. On October 1, 2011 he was appointed as the first professional county manager of Jefferson County, Alabama.

Mr. Petelos is actively involved in the community, having served on many Boards and Committees, bringing his leadership abilities to groups focused on the improvement of Jefferson County.

Interesting fact is in April of 2011, he hiked to the base of Mt. Everest.
