High School doing away with Valedictorian Award

The Cherry Creek School District in western Arapahoe County, Colorado, has decided that starting in 2026 they will longer recognize the student with the highest grade point average as valedictorian.

They say it’s “outdated” and that “learning is not a competition.”

Instead, they will recognize academic achievement in other ways like GPA honor cords at graduation, special award ceremonies and more.

Some folks aren’t too thrilled with the change.
